Celts' Keep Rollin'!!

The past ten days saw the Cornwall Celtics Jr. C's continue to roll with 3 big wins. Thursday, squaring off against the Gloucester Griffins at the Benson, followed by contests against the Huntsville Hawks, and the red-hot Barrie Bombers, both on the road.

Flashback to Thursday where the rival Gloucester Griffins came to town. The Celts' jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before exploding in the 2nd period en-route to a 17-8 win. Gloucester played their brand of physical lacrosse but was not able to muster an offensive punch strong enough to derail the Celtics defence. Current league scoring leader Tyler Akins paced the offence with a 3 goal, 7 assist, 10 point evening. Rookie 'Showtime' Jimmy John Jock Jr continues to impress and was all over the score sheet with a 4 goal, 4 assist game. Cornwall native Sam Fontaine went off for a 5 point night, Ryan Thomas continued his unbelievable offensive season from the defensive end, amassing 6 points on the night and Aodin MacDonell was lights out in transition scoring twice.

On Saturday, Cornwall's finest young men hit the highway to face last year's playoff foe in the Huntsville Hawks. The Celts' jumped on the hawks right off the first face off and erupted to take the game 14-4. Fontaine was a thorn in Huntsville's side from the first step and finished with 2 goals and 4 assists. Akins and Bryce Drew finished with 5 points respectively and Daylon Skidders made a dominant return to the lineup posting 4 points and killing penalties instinctively. Tristen Thompson made his second start in 3 nights and was rock solid between the pipes. Rookie Abram Garrow took the opportunity to acquaint himself with a dance-partner in the second period after the Hawks players had taken some liberties. Garrow took the win on TKO before extending a classy handshake to his opponent.

Finally, the guys in green rolled into the Holly Community Center in Barrie to clash with the Barrie Bombers, who, coming off a win streak, have played some great lacrosse this year. Playing down 2 men due to injury and sustaining another injury in the first period along with a suspension, the Celts' battled adversity in every way in order to take 2 much needed points. Cornwall jumped out to a 4-0 lead before simmering and seeing a 2nd period drought on the score sheet. The 3rd period saw another Celtics explosion offensively which saw the team outscore Barrie 7-1 and take the win 11-4. The teams defence was stingy in every way. Thompson again shut the door allowing only 4 goals through 60-minutes and was the backbone when the team needed him to be.

Next up the Celts' face a huge test in the Peterborough Lakers Jr. C squad who will make the trip to the east this weekend. Peterborough perennially holds down a top spot in the east and has had various close bouts with the Celtics over the years including an exciting playoff series in recent years. Game time is slated for 2pm at the Benson Center.
