Where Credit is Due;

To every team, in every sport, at every level, there are people behind the scenes that significantly impact the operations both during games and practices as well as away from the action with scheduling, financials, and travel planning. With the Cornwall Celtics Jr. C lacrosse team, those people are Vicki Akins and Tom Hughes.

Since the teams move to the Junior C loop in 2011, Vicki Akins and Tom Hughes have worn many different hats with the organization, one thing has remained constant; their effort towards building a sustainable and successful organization which continues to give athletic opportunities to both local and 'import' kids throughout the eastern Ontario region.

Currently, Akins holds the reigns of the off floor management role as well as weighs in on the on floor decisions, signings and roster movement as the teams General Manager. Hughes on the other hand serves as an assistant coach, defensive coordinator, the organizations President as well as a Bantam minor lacrosse coaching role.

"Vicki and Tom are the heartbeat of the organization, hands down." Says current head coach Mike Dube. "They truly are the foundation of the organization. Coaches come and go, volunteers come and go, players come and go, but the lacrosse community in Cornwall can count on Vicki and Tom as a certain constant."

Akins, who, this year will share the General manager role with Rad Joseph, has made strides towards finishing the schedule for the season as well as organizing the dates for training camp including the teams first inclusion in the Quebec Junior Lacrosse Showcase for publication in the near future.

Hughes, who has been busy in his President's role including aligning a new registration system online as the rest of Ontario with his cabinet, will be back with the team as the defensive coordinator.

At this point, the team is looking forward to a fresh season after last years rare struggles. It simply wouldn't be possible without the foundation of the organization. Thanks Tom and Vicki for all you do!
